Is There A Literal, Burning Hell? Sermon by Roger Bovee

Most modern ministers don't talk much about hell any more, and probably don't even believe in it. A study was made that Catholic and Protestant churches both now rarely mention hell as they both used to years ago. There's a lot of talk about heaven from these modern ministers, but little if any mention of hell. I've attended church all my life but have only heard two sermons on hell.

But the Bible still talks about it. "The wicked shall be turned into hell, and all the nations that forget God. For the needy shall not alway be forgotten: the expectation of the poor shall not perish forever." Psalm 9:17,18. This would imply that the rich who are unsympathetic to the poor would be especially likely to end up in hell. Jesus Christ told the story of Lazarus and an unsympathetic rich man. The poor man, Lazarus, died and went to heaven while the rich man "also died, and was buried; And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments." Luke 16:19-31.

James 5:1-6 says, "Go to now, ye rich men, weep and howl for your miseries that shall come upon you. Your riches are corrupted, and your garments are motheaten. Your gold and silver is cankered; and the rust of them shall be a witness against you, and shall eat your flesh as it were fire. Ye have heaped treasure together for the last days. Behold the hire of the labourers who have reaped down your fields, which is of you kept back by fraud, crieth: and the cries of them which have reaped are entered into the ears of the Lord of sabaoth. Ye have lived in pleasure on the earth, and been wanton; ye have nourished your hearts, as in a day of slaughter. Ye have condemned and killed the just; and he doth not resist you." There's still time to repent. See http://www.chick.com/reading/tracts/5021/5021_01.asp
